Colon Cancer Surgeons

The Australian HAL Group was established in August 2006. We are a group of 2 colorectal surgeons experienced in the treatment of colorectal disease. We are committed to providing the highest quality of care with the newest technology in the management of colorectal diseases, including minimally invasive surgery.

Dr Warwick Adams trained in general surgery at Westmead Hospital and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1989. He was selected for the Australasian Colorectal Surgery training programme, which he completed in 1993, before going to Minneapolis, USA, as a visiting fellow in Colorectal Surgery in 1994. He then returned to St George Hospital in Sydney as Lecturer in Surgery where he completed his Master of Surgery Degree investigating the immunology of colorectal cancer.

He has been developing laparoscopic techniques for colonic surgery since 1998 and has been working with Dr Simon Chew in developing exciting new hand-assisted techniques for minimally invasive surgery since early 2005.

Dr Simon Chew studied Medicine at the UNSW. He obtained MBBS (Honours Class 1) in 1992 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. He went through the Australasian Colorectal training programme in 2001-2002. Dr Chew was a Colorectal Surgeon in the Nepean Hospital, Penrith and a Clinical Senior Lecturer of the University of Sydney.

Together with Dr Adams, Dr Chew has been involved in the development of hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery colectomy techniques. He has been invited to teach the techniques at interstate educational workshops for Colorectal Surgeons held in Melbourne and Perth. He has also been an invited speaker at various conferences on this topic, including the Australian Gastroenterology Week 2005, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress 2006 and the Gastroenterology Tri-Nation Meeting 2007 (Australia, New Zealand & South Africa).

Together, Dr Warwick Adams and Dr Simon Chew have set up the Sydney Bowel Bleeding Clinic in August 2006 and the Holroyd Colorectal Surgery in March 2007. These 2 surgeons perform minimally invasive surgery for colon cancer and colorectal diseases in several locations in Sydney, NSW Australia.
