Anorectal & Pelvic Floor Disorders
We deal with anorectal problems such as haemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal fistula, pilonidal sinus, perianal abscess and pruritus ani. These are some of the many conditions that occur around the anus that cause significant discomfort and irritation. They may be associated with an itch, discharge, bleeding, pain or lump. The first step to deal with these problems is a thorough assessment and accurate diagnosis, and this can be performed in the surgery. Once the diagnosis is established, there is a range of treatments available, ranging from dietary manipulation to topical ointments, to small surgical procedures, which can effectively eradicate these problems.
We also deal with pelvic floor disorder such as faecal incontinence and obstructed defaecation. We can perform anorectal physiology tests on patients with faecal incontinence using anal manometry, pudendal nerve study and endoanal ultrasound. We are also able to provide a range of treatment modalities ranging from medical to surgical treatment using the most modern technology including the injection of silicone (PTQ implant), Sacral Nerve Stimulation, TENS Stimulation, sphincter repair and perineal rectal sling operation to treat faecal incontinence.
In patients with obstructed defaecation, they usually present with significant straining at stools, sensation of incomplete evacuation, the use of suppositories/enema and/or digitation of vagina or manipulation of perianal area. This is a condition that is poorly understood by many and commonly under-reported. They can be assessed clinically and also using defaecating proctogram. We are able to provide a range of services for this condition which include pelvic floor biofeedback physiotherapy and the STARR procedure. STARR (Stapled TransAnal Rectal Resection) is a new technique developed in the Europe. It involves removal of the “diseased” lower rectum and re-established the normal anatomy.
