Colon Cancer Surgeons
The Australian HAL Group was originally established in August 2006. We are a group of 2 colorectal surgeons (Dr Simon Chew & Dr Warwick Adams) experienced in the treatment of colorectal disease. Dr Adams retired from Colorectal Surgery in 2008. Dr Kim Loh joined the group in 2011 and he has been operating with Dr Chew since 2007. We are committed to providing the highest quality of care with the newest technology in the management of colorectal diseases, including minimally invasive surgery.
Dr Simon Chew studied Medicine at the UNSW. He obtained MBBS (Honours Class 1) in 1992 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. He went through the Australasian Colorectal training programme in 2001-2002. Dr Chew was a Colorectal Surgeon in the Nepean Hospital, Penrith and a Clinical Senior Lecturer of the University of Sydney.
Dr Chew has been involved in the development of hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery colectomy techniques. He has been invited to teach the techniques at interstate educational workshops for Colorectal Surgeons held in Melbourne and Perth. He has also been an invited speaker at various conferences on this topic, including the Australian Gastroenterology Week 2005, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress 2006 and the Gastroenterology Tri-Nation Meeting 2007 (Australia, New Zealand & South Africa), and The Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand Spring Meeting 2007.
Dr Kim Loh studied Medicine at the University of Sydney. He obtained MB BS (Hons) in 1997 and his surgical fellowship FRACS in 2006. He has been a Colorectal / General Surgeon at Blacktown / Mount Druitt Hospital since 2007.
Dr Loh is experienced in Hand-assisted Laparoscopic Surgery. He also has rich teaching experience in educating medical students and surgical trainees.
